The Ergo platform has accomplished many breakthrough developments in 2021. Ergo was listed on new exchanges, and new dApps were developed. The Ergo Foundation announced a new strategic advisor to the board, Dan Friedman. Ergo foundation was incorporated as a non-profit. Ergo is poised to build the platform on the achievements from last year. Ergo Foundation has many projects, plans and partnerships planned for 2022.
Ergo Hackathons
The third edition of Ergo’s hackathon — ErgoHack III is scheduled for February 2022. Ergo hackathons have become a cornerstone of development with two different events in 2021. These events are innovative contests where developers can showcase their skills by building new tools, use cases, and dApps on the Ergo blockchain.
The upcoming iteration, ErgoHack III, focuses on privacy and security and applications are open until January 31, 2022. Previous ErgoHacks are responsible for some of the most recent and popular dApps in the ecosystem.
Ergo Wallets
Ergo mobile wallet development is undoubtedly one of the most exciting prospects in the ecosystem. After a successful launch on both android and iOS devices, the Ergo mobile wallet is expected to include more Ergo features as updates continue to be integrated.
There are several other wallets available/in development in the ecosystem:
- Nautilus wallet recently announced they are building a new Ergo wallet focused on privacy.
- Yoroi wallet and dApp connector are getting updates to improve the user experience
- Satergo is a new desktop wallet that gives users full control and allows for the safekeeping of ERG tokens on a desktop. Version 0.0.2 was recently released and more details can be found at https://github.com/Satergo/Satergo/projects/
- In May 2021, Ergo partnered with Tessaract systems to bring Ledger support for the ERG token. Developers are currently waiting for a review on updates of that work and Ledger integration is expected to be completed soon.
Ergo Bridges
Cross-chain interoperability has become a focal point for many blockchain ecosystems. Here’s what we know about Ergo’s cross-chain efforts.
- Ergo’s recent partnership with Gravity Networks is another step toward interoperability. Due to the partnership, SuSy Gateway is building a bridge connecting Ergo to Solana and EVM compatible blockchains. According to a recent developer update, the bridge is complete and is ready for testing and optimization.
- Ergo is building a bridge with the Conceal Network. This bridge will bring the wrapped CCX token (wCCX) to the Ergo blockchain and ERG to Conceal Network.
- The team behind ErgoDEX is expected to complete integration with the Cardano network this year.
- During recent Ergo AMA’s, Dan Friedman has indicated that a team has been assembled to work on bridges to even more chains as the Foundation works to list a version of wrapped Ergo on several major DEXs.
Soft Fork Proposal
The EIP-27 soft fork is a proposal to change the emission schedule of ERG tokens. The soft fork aims to extend the emission curve and create a longer period for mining rewards (while maintaining the same capped supply). More details on the proposal and details about the upcoming vote can be found here: https://www.ergoforum.org/t/emission-soft-fork-proposal/2996.
ERGO dApps Development
Last year, core and community developers worked on the launch of several new dApps. There were also significant upgrades to existing ones. Here are some of the dApps and what to expect in 2022.
ErgoLend
ErgoLend is a lending solution on the Ergo blockchain focusing on providing uncollateralized loans to users. Starting this January, ErgoLend is also working on ErgoLearn (DeCo), an education program for people to learn about ErgoScript and how to bring a project to the Ergo ecosystem.
ErgoDEX
After a beta launch in August 2021, the decentralized exchange is working on the automated money maker pools, swap settings, order book UI, and a host of other updates and tweaks, including integration with the Cardano blockchain. Subsequent optimization and a full launch are expected sometime in the year.
Ergo NFT Marketplace
Last November, the Ergo Auction House was upgraded to include some exciting features including video and audio NFTs. The Ergo NFT gallery is also currently in development so make sure to keep an eye out!
Ergo Stablecoins
SigUSD is a crypto-backed algorithmic stablecoin on the Ergo blockchain and was launched in February 2021. Another stablecoin, DexyUSD, is currently in a testing phase and is expected to fully launch this year.
ErgoPay
ErgoPay is a payment scheme currently in development that will link dApps and Ergo wallets. ErgoPay aims to use auto-filled QR codes and links to make payments seamless. The dApp is currently being tested on Chrome and Opera and it works through the Yoroi dApp connector to validate transactions. More updates on ErgoPay and other dApps can be found on Sigmaverse.
Ergo Listings & Partnerships
Last year, Ergo partnered with Kairon Labs, a leading cryptocurrency market maker. The partnership is a massive step forward towards boosting Ergo’s volume and liquidity while the Ergo Foundation pursues listings on top-tier exchanges.
In tandem with this strategy, Ergo is pursuing partnerships with educational institutions and other DEXs to promote education products and cross-chain interoperability for the Ergo ecosystem.
